ISA organizes Cultural Night 2015: Unifying Force for Global Community
14 October 2015 | IMRonquillo |It was indeed a night of colors, culture, and splendor as the International Students' Association (ISA), in cooperation with the International Students' Division (ISD) of OSA, held the 2015 Cultural Night themed "Unifying Force for Global Community" on 14 October 2015 at the DL Umali Hall.
The event began with the Parade of Nations where the international students paraded in their national costumes and introduced themselves and their countries. They then gathered for group singing of "Kaleidoscope World," a song about peoples' differences contributing to a colorful world.
It was a big honor for ISA and the UPLB international community as the event was witnessed by embassy representatives from different countries.
The Dean of Graduate School and ISA Adviser, Dr. Jose V. Camacho Jr. reiterated in his speech how the Graduate School is always ready to provide assistance to international students because they are the Graduate School's inspiration to pursue greater heights.
OSA Director Dr. Nina M. Cadiz, in her welcome message, mentioned how OSA plays a vital role in helping international students adapt to the UPLB Community.
Dr. Serlie B. Jamias, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, delivered an inspirational message to guests and students in behalf of the Chancellor and expressed how the university has nothing but the greatest respect for international students. According to her, the university has many plans to make UPLB globally competitive by being a premiere research and graduate school. On 2 December 2015, the construction of the Graduate School International Student and Cultural Center officially started.
Ten cultural performances from different countries graced the stage and showcased that no matter how different our cultures may be, it is with unity that we can transcend barriers and pursue genuine globalization.
